Her vision is bold, daring and avant-garde. In fact, Zaha Hadid’s work is often considered polarising. You either love it, loathe it or simply don’t get it. However, regardless of the acclaim or criticism, Hadid consistently pushes the boundaries of architecture with her signature space age, futuristic aesthetic.

Hadid is the first female to single-handedly conquer the field of architecture, a domain that is to this day, primarily a male dominated industry. Her edgy, ultra-modern concepts are well ahead of their time in terms of form and structure and has earned her the honour of the highly prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004. Yet, despite Hadid’s achievements, she’s also had the misfortune of seeing many of her projects fail to come to fruition. Nevertheless, Hadid continues to be an influential figure and a tenacious force with her unconventional designs.
Hadid’s creations are distinguished by their sinuously curved silhouettes with elongated structural layers. An approach generally defined as a fusion of Russian Constructivism combined with Futurism resulting in iconic buildings with dynamic forms of construction.

I love the mind that can conjure up shapes like these. The architect was interviewed on British radio recently and she – understandably – got cross when the questions were all about her place in a male dominated profession rather than celebrating her achievements. But really her designs say all they need to about her excellence.

Me too. They’re creative geniuses who think outside the square. I’d love to have the same imagination. I read about that interview. She’s know to be feisty but you’d have to be in this industry. She’s certainly one of the greats.
